Chiang Mai is a city located in Northern Thailand. It was the capital of the indepent Lanna Kingdom until 1558. It is home to over 300 Buddhist temples. Known as a historical and religious spot, the old town is overflowing with walls, moats and temples. Chiang Mai is also known for its food culture. The sunday night market is by far the biggest night market I have seen in Thailand. It does not mean it is better though. It is so much overcrowed that the experience is quite average. You better go early to enjoy some bites!
Chiang Mai is also the last place I visit in Thailand before flying over Laos!
After a month exploring the country, I think that Southern Thailand is overrated. It is way too much touristy and the landscapes are not that stunning. Everyone has the right to travel its own way but be aware that the atmosphere of Southern Thailand is quite special. That being said, I assume there might be some incredible islands to explore but I probably would have needed more time to allocate to Southern Thailand.
Northern Thailand including Bangkok has been a blast! Thai are amazingly lovely people ; always smiling and willing to help! The food tastes amazing. Pad thai is life but the real deal is Khao Soy! It is a Burmese influenced coconut noodle soup with meat. Even if your mouth is literally burning because of spices, it is so delicious that you just wanna get another bite. It easily ranks amongst my favorite dishes of all time. The atmosphere is much better and the moutainous sceneries are breathtaking!
