Only four kilometers south of Koh Rong sits the smaller island of Koh Rong Samloem. It is a bit less touristy and a wilder option than Koh Rong. Expect white sands and turquoise waters on a number of beaches around the whole island.
M’Pay Bay is a great spot to enjoy both sunrises and sunsets as it stands at the northernmost point of the island. Kayaking is a great option to get around Koh Kok. While Saracen Bay is not the cleanest and wildest option, it is the longest beach of the Island. If you are looking for the best blend of cleanliness and wildness, just head to Lazy Beach. It is an amazing 15 minutes walk through the Jungle from Saracen beach!
Both Koh Rong and Koh Rong Samloem are known for their bioluminescent plankton. It is a mesmerizing spectacle of glowing plankton lighting up the water in a blue gradient. Unfortunately, I could not get to see it properly. If you are lucky enough to get a minimal light pollution and optimal weather conditions, enjoy the show!
