Kratie is a riverside town in Eastern Cambodia. It is a 7-hour bus journey from Phnom Penh. Kratie is famous for its rare Irrawaddy dolphins and its crazy Mekong sunsets. There are a couple of viewpoints to enjoy incredible sunsets alongside the Mekong river. All viewpoints are within walking distance from the city center. The lake that is behind the city is a nice place to spot locals fishing.
When stepping on the quiet Koh Trong island, be prepared to cycle some kids back on your way as some jump at the back of your bike. Every single kid in the area is quite excited when seeing foreigners which is indeed a wonderful experience! It feels like time is slowing down.
Cycling for 15kms up North will get you to Kampi. A small floating village in the middle of the Mekong rapids. On the way back to Kratie, take the time to stop by the temples alongside the road. Some of them are absolutely stunning!
