Langkawi is the northernmost island in Malaysia. It is a 2-hour bus journey from George Town followed by a 1-hour ferry journey from Kuala Perlis. If you are looking for a wild island, you might want to head somewhere else in Malaysia. It is as much developed as a mainland city and very touristy.
There are a couple of really nice beaches though. Expect white sands and turquoise waters on a number of beaches around the island! Pantai Cenang is the western part of the island and probably the most enjoyable one with Tanjung Rhu in the Northern part.
Do not expect much in terms of sightseeing or adventurous activities. Everything is oriented around sunbathing and watersports. If you fancy getting a breathtaking view of the island, head towards the cable car which offer a 360° view on the bay!
One last thing, make sure to check one the amazing food markets of Langkawi which are held every day of the week in the main locations such as Pantai Cenang, Kuah, and Padang Matsirat. Malay food specials are insanely cheap and tasty! The one of Pantai Cenang operates on Thursday only. Ask locals for advice and location of the day!
