Litang travel photography – China

Litang is a city located at 3950m above sea level in the Northwest part of the Sishuan province. Litang is one of the world’s highest settlement and the birthplace of the 7th & 10th Dalai Lama. It is a short 3-hour bus journey from Daocheng. If you do not fancy waking up at 5.30am to get a bus, be aware that minivans depart around 8am from Daocheng at a similar price with a good bargaining.

Once again, the scenery coming from Daocheng is breathtaking as it goes through mountain passes. All travel activities in Litang are centered around the Tibetan culture such as the Former residence of the 7th Dailai Lama, the stunning Chode Gompa Tibetan monastery which was built for the 3rd Dalai Lama in 1580, the Burrial Site and the White Temple Park.

Unless you can get a motorbike or a car to drive kilometers away from the city, you won’t get to see much more of the surroundings than what is enjoyable from Litang itself. A day is more than enough to explore the city.
