Andong is a city located in the Southern East part of South Korea. It is a 4-hour train journey from Sokcho. Andong is one of the most important historical and cultural site of South Korea. It features traditional villages such as the Andong Folk village and the Hahoe Folk Village.
The Hahoe Folk Village is a traditional village from the Joseon Dynasty and the birthplace of renowned scholars such as Gyeomam Ryu Un-ryong and Seoae Ryu Seong-ryong. The whole site is noted as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. ‘Ha” stands for river and ‘hoe’ stands for ‘turn around’. This could not better describe the scenery as the Nakdong river flows around the village of over 230 inhabitants living in centuries-old houses.
A day is more than enough to get around the different sites. While the city is not the most beautiful and interesting of all, there are plenty of restaurants to try out food specials and local breweries producing Soju.
